Man United take first step towards Marco Verratti signing

Manchester United are ready to move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti after scouting him for several months, reports TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italy international has been heavily linked with Barcelona this summer, but United will be confident of beating the Blaugrana to his signature thanks to a change in his situation.

As per Spanish publication Sport, Verratti is now represented by super-agent Mino Raiola, the man behind the deals that took Paul Pogba, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford.

Raiola has replaced Donato Di Campli, though it’s not entirely clear why. It does suggest, however, that Verratti could be on the move as Raiola has a reputation for getting the biggest transfers over the line, even if he usually takes a hefty cut for himself.

Jose Mourinho is in need of a central midfielder, with new club captain Michael Carrick in the twilight of his career.

Now is the time to swoop for Verratti, with PSG having endured a relatively disappointing first season under Unai Emery, missing out on the Ligue 1 title to Monaco and allowing Barcelona’s incredible comeback that sent them crashing out of the Champions League.
