Manchester United are ready to step up their pursuit of Eric Dier despite Tottenham’s insistence that he isn’t for sale.
The Guardian report that the Red Devils have already had a bid for the England international knocked back by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy, but it’s thought they are now preparing a second bid of £50million.
The Lilywhites are doing their utmost to keep the squad that finished second last season intact – bar Kyle Walker, who may be allowed to leave for Manchester City provided they meet his asking price.
Yet, the same source believe that Dier is open to moving to United and while he is not forcing a move, he could be tempted to head to Old Trafford.
ESPN have also corroborated the story, even going as far as to say that United are “firm in their belief” that the midfielder would rather play for them than Spurs.
Ed Woodward has already pulled off one massive coup in the surprise signing of Romelu Lukaku from Everton, but it is imperative that he brings in a holding midfielder. Michael Carrick may have just been made captain, but this could well be his last season at the club and Jose Mourinho will want a replacement bedded in before the 35-year-old retires.

Tottenham are no longer a “selling” club. They are additionally ratcheting up salaries as seen last season several times. They have the best starting 11 in the League (in my humble opinion)and it’s only getting better by experience.
They are about to play in front of 90,000 for home games and have arguably the best young manager in the game.
Dier is an integral squad player, and highly rated by Poch.
Of course the traditional bigger clubs believe when they come a calling you listen.
To lose Dier or any key members is more than just a money thing.
Levy is no fool. He knows the sum of the parts is far less than the whole.
I believe that even if United offered £100m, the answer would be no.
Player for player United only have a goalkeeper who would arguably get in the Spurs team.
So why on earth would Dier want to join? The nonsense about he’s unhappy is Press and United spin mongering.

Where do you get this tripe from…? Walker is the only player from the top brass group who is going to leave. As for espn…they have a traditional top teams superiority complex.
