If Arsene Wenger plays his cards right, he could have a phenomenal attack on his hands next season.
Arsenal have broken their club record fee to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon. In an ideal world, he’d be linking up with Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil at the Emirates, but of course, that may well not be the reality.
The two contract rebels have not yet signed new deals and have just 12 months left on their respective current agreements.
As the Gunners’ top scorer, Sanchez’s future has to be the priority. Arsenal would dearly love to convince him to stay in spite of their failure to qualify for the Champions League.
The Chilean clearly knows his worth, at least judging by the Mirror’s latest report. The newspaper claims he is asking for a crazy £400,000-a-week to sign an extension, which is £125,000 more than Arsenal have put on the table.
Arsenal are in an unenviable position, as they are insistent that they won’t sell him to Manchester City, but his wage demands are putting off other potential suitors like Bayern Munich.
Ozil, meanwhile, would like £350,000-a-week, which again explains why ostensibly at least, no progress has been made in the negotiations.
