Kevin Wimmer could soon be allowed to leave Tottenham as the club monitor two potential replacements.
The Mirror report that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in Swansea’s Alife Mawson and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.
Gibson’s performances were one of the few positives for ‘Boro last season and they will struggle to keep hold of him in the Championship, while Mawson has also been making a name for himself with England’s under-21’s.
Spurs would ideally like to sell Wimmer, rated at £20million, first in order to balance the books.
It’s thought that Southampton are keen to keep him in the Premier League as uncertainty remains over their most important centre-back, Virgil van Dijk. The Saints sold another key defender, Jose Fonte, to West Ham in January.
The Austrian is also expected to have offers from the Bundesliga. That would free up a place at Tottenham for a back-up defender, as Pochettino wants as many options as possible to allow him to operate with either three or four at the back.
