Arsenal are already preparing for the eventuality of missing out on Kylian Mbappe.
The Monaco starlet is widely expected to choose Real Madrid as his next destination if he does leave Ligue 1 this summer – hence the Daily Mail suggesting that Arsene Wenger has set his sights on an alternative.
It’s being reported that Anthony Martial is on the Gunners’ wishlist, and they could offer Manchester United as much as £40million for the France international.
The 21-year-old has been in and out of Jose Mourinho’s side, but Wenger could effectively kill two birds with one stone with his signing. Arsenal are in need of a forward – potentially to replace Alexis Sanchez, who has just a year left on his contract – while they could also do with another attacking midfielder out wide, and Martial can operate in both those roles.
The Mail suggest the sale of Martial could help United to finance their huge summer plans, with Mourinho still hoping to bring in Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata and either Eric Dier or Nemanja Matic.
