Manchester United are putting the final touches on their offer for Alvaro Morata.
The marginalised Real Madrid striker is close to a move to Old Trafford, but judging by the Sun’s figures, he isn’t going to come cheap.
The newspaper claim that the Spain international will cost a total of £180million – £90m for the transfer fee, and another £90m in wages.
In some ways, it’s remarkable that Real value him so highly given that he has played second fiddle to Karim Benzema for much of the most recent season.
However, his impressive tally of 15 goals in La Liga, having made just 14 starts, has attracted United’s interest.
The deal on the table is for five years and will see the 24-year-old pick up £350,000 a week.
Real have already rejected a £65m bid from the Red Devils, and that’s thought to be partly because Florentino Perez knows about the £90m wages being discussed. The Madrid president thinks the fee should reflect that, and it appears he is willing to hold out until United up their offer.
