Riyad Mahrez continues to attract interest as he seeks a move away from Leicester, but it appears Tottenham will not be his next destination.
According to the Mirror, Spurs have rejected the chance to sign the Algerian, leaving Juventus and Arsenal as the front-runners in the race for the playmaker.
Mahrez has struggled to replicate his form from Leicester’s title-winning season, though he started to show signs of his ability once again under Craig Shakespeare.
That hasn’t been enough to convince Mauricio Pochettino, who the newspaper claims is monitoring Mahrez’s Leicester team-mate Demarai Gray.
Spurs were one of a number of clubs linked with the youngster as far back as 2014, but since moving to the King Power from Birmingham, he is thought to have become unsettled.
The 20-year-old has a release clause of £22million, which could be problematic, especially as he hasn’t been playing particularly regularly for the Foxes.
If Mahrez leaves, as expected, then that could change. Shakespeare may well turn to Gray to replace the more established midfielder, but he can only do that if he’s still at the club at the end of August.
