Tottenham are bracing themselves for a bid from Manchester City for Kyle Walker, but they have already earmarked a replacement if he does leave for the Etihad.
The Mirror report that Porto’s Ricardo Pereira, rated at around £20million, is being strongly considered by Mauricio Pochettino.
With Walker unlikely to be sold for less than £40million, that would leave the Lilywhites another £20million to reinvest in the squad.
The 23-year-old can play as a wing-back, which would suit Spurs’ system of three at the back, while he also operates as a more conventional right-back.
Leicester’s Demarai Gray and Schalke’s Max Meyer are the other players at the top of Pochettino’s wish list, but identifying a replacement for Walker is the priority as he is the only first team star expected to leave north London.
City are yet to make a formal bid, but Pep Guardiola has indicated he wants to get his business done early having already signed Benfica’s Ederson and Monaco’s Bernardo Silva.
