Liverpool could beat Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City to the signing of Virgil van Dijk, reports the Mirror.
The Southampton defender is expected to leave St Mary’s this summer, possibly breaking the world record fee for a defender in the process.
While the Dutchman will have no shortage of offers, there is one move that is interesting him the most, and that’s the possibility of a switch to Anfield.
Van Dijk reportedly wants the chance to work under Jurgen Klopp, who will tell him in negotiations that he will be Liverpool’s most important centre-back.
All of Van Dijk’s suitors apart from Arsenal can offer Champions League football, though of course, Liverpool still have to go through the qualifying rounds.
Ironically, Chelsea believe they are leading the race for the defender, but even their status as Premier League winners might not be enough to change his mind.
As for Southampton, losing the 25-year-old will be a huge blow, especially as they have already been depleted by the departure of Jose Fonte, who joined West Ham in January.
