Pep Guardiola has a lot to prove next season.
Many predicted that Manchester City would run away with the title as soon as the Catalan arrived, but that hasn’t quite been the case.
However, if he doesn’t win silverware next term, he’ll have some serious questions to answer.
The Manchester Evening News have outlined his summer spending plans, and frankly, they’re nothing short of ridiculous.
City will have a kitty of £300million to lure the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Kyle Walker to the Etihad.
Bernardo Silva is the first player to arrive from Monaco in a £43million deal. His team-mate Benjamin Mendy is also on Guardiola’s wish list, as is a new centre-back.
Leonardo Bonucci or Virgil van Dijk are the main options being considered in that position, though the latter will be a lot easier to procure than the former.
William Carvalho and Fabinho are being looked at, and naturally, City will target a goalkeeper to replace Claudio Bravo and the outgoing Willy Caballero.
Portugal international Ederson is the favourite, though Jack Butland and Jordan Pickford are back-ups.
Guardiola can have absolutely no excuses if he doesn’t win the title with that kind of resources.
