Man City could make surprise move for key Middlesbrough player

PEP

Middlesbrough will not be bracing themselves for too many offers when the transfer window opens.

With relegation sealed at Stamford Bridge on Monday, the harsh reality is that few ‘Boro players have covered themselves in glory.

Ben Gibson has shown the most promise, but they could also lose several others who are unwilling to drop down to the Championship.

According to ESPN, Manchester City may be among the first to come calling, as they are considering a move for Victor Valdes.

Pep Guardiola is set to sign at least one goalkeeper this summer, with Willy Caballero out of contract and Claudio Bravo yet to convince. Joe Hart will also leave the Etihad, leaving Guardiola with a headache in goal.

Valdes knows the City boss well from their time together at Barcelona, and the 35-year-old has done well to keep eight clean sheets from 28 appearances behind a suspect Middlesbrough defence. The fact Guardiola is even thinking about signing the Catalan surely doesn’t bode well for Bravo.
