It’s typically getting to that stage of the season where Romelu Lukaku goes quiet.
The Belgian hasn’t scored in his last three games, but he remains impossible to ignore as the leading contender for the Premier League’s Golden Boot.
Speculation over his future refuses to go away, with the Sun now suggesting he could move to Manchester United rather than Chelsea.
The newspaper claims that the striker is concerned that he will not fit in with Antonio Conte’s style of play – though he is also desperate to play Champions League football, making a switch to United something of a gamble.
While the 23-year-old may not be naturally suited to Conte’s pressing, high-energy model of play, he has clearly been irked by the persistent talk over his next move.
Just as that article was released, the Everton star posted the following on his Twitter account:
Some media these days are annoying man…. 😓

As long as i didn't make a public statement about my situation please stay out of my business ok? #☀️…

There has always been a sense of unfinished business surrounding Lukaku and former club Chelsea. Jose Mourinho let him go without even including a buy-back clause because he was convinced the forward would never reach a level whereby Chelsea wanted him to return to Stamford Bridge.
However, even that most optimistic of Everton fans, Bill Kenwright, will not read Lukaku’s tweets as a pledge of loyalty to his current club.
