One club is leading the race for Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester’s hopes of keeping hold of Kasper Schmeichel look increasingly slim as Manchester United and Manchester City both hunt the goalkeeper.

The Denmark international has recently secured himself a new agent, and the man in question is Luca Bascherini, who has strong relations with United.

That, according to Sky Sports, has put the Red Devils in pole position to sign the 30-year-old.

The stopper is unlikely to come cheap having only signed a new deal with Leicester last summer, but after struggling to follow up on last season’s glorious campaign, the Foxes are resigned to losing a number of key players.

Jose Mourinho will be forced to sign a new ‘keeper if David de Gea moves to Real Madrid, but City have problems of their own between the sticks.

Claudio Bravo has endured a nightmare debut season at the Etihad and while Pep Guardiola is unlikely to admit publicly that he needs a new number one, it would surprise few if he were to move for an established Premier League goalkeeper like Schmeichel.

There would be something poignant about Kasper following in the footsteps of his father Peter at Old Trafford, but first United must thrash out a complex deal with Leicester.
