Manchester City’s defeat at Chelsea may have been disappointing for Pep Guardiola, but it can’t have been completely unexpected.
A 2-1 scoreline summed up the gulf between the two sides this season and aptly, it ended any last hopes City had of overhauling Antonio Conte’s men at the top of the table.
It sounds as if Guardiola did not take to defeat kindly.
The Mirror report that he and other members of the City bench were involved in a furious row with Chelsea staff in the tunnel immediately after the game until stewards had to intervene.
Antonio Conte had already gone into the dressing room so all this will have passed him by.
While it didn’t turn physical, it’s another sign that Guardiola is feeling the pressure in English football.
The loss at Stamford Bridge was significant in that it was City’s sixth of the season, and the Catalan has never suffered so many defeats in one campaign in his career before.
