Luke Shaw has very few games left to save his Manchester United career.
The left-back is now essentially fifth-choice behind Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian, and Daley Blind.
It’s easy to forget he’s just 21, so he should still have time to turn his career around.
Even so, that looks unlikely to happen under Jose Mourinho.
According to the Sun, the England international is therefore desperate for a reunion with Mauricio Pochettino if he can convince Tottenham to take a punt on him.
It’s claimed that if Spurs lose Danny Rose to Manchester City, then Shaw is a potential target because he knows Pochettino from their time together at Southampton.
Pochettino’s reputation for turning players’ careers around is second to none.
The likes of Erik Lamela, Kyle Walker, and Mousa Dembele have completely transformed since the Argentine took over in 2014.
Despite suggestions that he has a poor attitude, Shaw has been putting in extra hours in the gym in a bid to get fit.
Mourinho has fuelled the fire in recent days, telling reporters:
“The way he [Shaw] trains and commits, the focus, the ambition – he is a long way behind.”
Pochettino certainly doesn’t allow slackers in his ranks, but if he really is committed to getting his fitness back on track, then Spurs could potentially offer him an escape route from Old Trafford.
