Atletico Madrid may be in the middle of a FIFA transfer ban, but it seems they already have one eye on overturning it.
Spanish outlet AS claim that despite their complex situation, manager Diego Simeone has already been drawing up a list of targets – including Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.
The Chilean will cost at least £35million, and he’s only as cheap as that because he will have just a year left on his contract by the summer.
Having seen Real Madrid’s ban rescinded, Atleti see no reason why they can’t win an appeal themselves.
At present, they’re the last club Arsenal will be expecting a bid from, but that could change if they are suddenly able to buy players again.
Were Sanchez to move to La Liga, it was always expected that he’d go back to his old club Barcelona. Part of his frustration at Arsenal stems from their failure to compete for the title, so Atleti would be a strange choice of club.
As they look forward to a move from the Vincente Calderon, however, there’s no reason why they can’t start showing some serious ambition to break the monopoly in Spanish football.
