Manchester United could break the world transfer record for the second summer in a row as they look to sign Neymar.
That’s according to Spanish outlet Sport, who claim the Brazilian could eclipse Paul Pogba’s current price tag of £89million.
The Barcelona superstar would become the best-paid player in the Premier League were he to move to Old Trafford, the cover story suggesting he’d pick up £25million a year.
As for the Blaugrana, they wouldn’t be able to stop him leaving because his contract does have a release clause – but it’ll take £200million for United to get their man.
Exactly why Jose Mourinho is interested is unclear. It goes without saying that Neymar is a huge talent and quite possibly the third best in the world, but he probably shouldn’t be his priority.
It all seems a little far-fetched and almost certainly couldn’t happen if United were signing Antoine Griezmann, which it’s thought they will.
Even Ed Woodward isn’t going to sanction both of them.
It’s been rumoured that the 25-year-old’s ongoing court battles over his transfer to Barca have tainted his love of life in Catalonia, but as the cliche goes, it’s hard to imagine him swapping that for the blustery trips to Stoke and West Bromwich just yet.
