With Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez now widely expected to leave Arsenal, the club have set about identifying replacements to bolster their squad.
Sanchez may be one of a kind, but Arsene Wenger seems to have already found a player who can step into Ozil’s role.
The Times report that the Gunners are plotting a £25million bid for Barcelona’s Arda Turan, and the Blaugrana may be willing to let him go as they themselves are looking ahead to a summer of transition.
The Turkey international is 30, so he is not coming cheap for a player of that age.
However, Barca are unlikely to allow him to leave for much less than the £26million they paid Atletico Madrid for him just a couple of years ago.
Turan’s career at Camp Nou has never quite taken off. The playmaker is up against some fierce competition for a starting place and he’s started just 13 of 28 La Liga games this season.
A move to Arsenal should therefore be appealing, as he’d be just as valued as Ozil is now.
