Mesut Ozil must be grateful to have missed Arsenal’s latest humiliation at West Brom.
The Gunners capitulated to a 3-1 defeat in the Black Country, with Alexis Sanchez forced off in the second half with suspected ankle ligament damage.
The club’s top four hopes are looking bleaker by the day.
Ozil has often been accused of abandoning ship when he’s most needed, but on this occasion he was absent with a hamstring injury.
According to the Sun, the playmaker was named in the team on Friday, but then left training after complaining of a problem.
And to Wenger’s disbelief, the 28-year-old now plans to meet up with the Germany squad tonight ahead of their game against England on Wednesday.
It’s claimed his relationship with Wenger has been deteriorating for a year, and this is just the latest symptom of the breakdown in relations.
Perhaps most worryingly, it suggests a complete lack of authority on Wenger’s part if Ozil does go ahead with his plans to fly to Dortmund.
Ozil still hasn’t committed his future to the club, and it certainly doesn’t bode well with that contract on the table.
