Jurgen Klopp responds to Joe Hart speculation

Hart

Jurgen Klopp seems to have finally settled on Simon Mignolet as his first choice goalkeeper.

After months of indecision between the Belgian and Loris Karius, Liverpool are now back in the position they were a year ago with Mignolet between the sticks.

It does beg the question of why they signed Karius at all last summer, but it would also suggest that they will be recruiting again at the end of the season to finally resolve their problem position.

Joe Hart would be an obvious target, as the England keeper is likely to come back from Torino at the end of his loan spell to ensure he remains in Gareth Southgate’s thinking.

With no place for him at Manchester City for as long as Pep Guardiola remains in charge, the former Birmingham man is expected to move on from the Etihad.

However, Jurgen Klopp has quickly poured cold water on rumours linking him with Anfield.

“We have these really, really good goalkeepers,” he said, quoted via the Sun.

“We have with Mr (Alex) Manninger – a wonderful professional player in the squad which helps the squad a lot.

“We have young players in behind including Danny Ward on loan (at Huddersfield).

“Our situation is as good as possible. I am happy most of the days.

“One day when a goalkeeper is involved in a goal which happens quite a few times.

“It is the life of a goalkeeper that you are the last man standing.

“Then you are not too happy but I am happy with our goalkeepers, yes.”

Admittedly, Klopp may be simply taking the pressure off his players and is hardly going to admit that he’s interested at Hart at this stage.

It also remains to be seen whether Guardiola would even sanction a move to a top four rival.
