Jose Mourinho is set to be given a huge war chest yet again this summer.
Manchester United’s summer spending may not have helped them mount a title challenge this time around, but club chiefs seem determined that they put that right next season.
Mourinho is likely to scour his old stomping ground of La Liga, with Antoine Griezmann widely thought to be top of his list.
Unsurprisingly, though, he is also considering targets from former employers Real Madrid.
Spanish website Don Balon claim that United have added Los Blancos duo Toni Kroos and Raphael Varane to their wishlist.
Given the defensive problems they’ve had this season, Varane should be the priority, though it’s likely they’ll have to fork out significantly more for Kroos.
United tried to sign the German before he left Bayern Munich for the Bernabeu, so they’ll be hoping they have more luck this summer.
A player with his quality of passing would be ideal with uncertainty continuing around the future of Michael Carrick.
As for Varane, he’s never really been a regular in the Madrid team under Zinedine Zidane, and the Frenchman may need to move on for the sake of his international career.
If Mourinho is able to sign the players he wants at the end of the season, he’ll certainly be able to have no excuses going forward, as he can’t argue United aren’t backing him.
