Liverpool would undoubtedly have expected to still be in the title race by this point of the season.
Such has been their league form in recent weeks, though, that the Reds are already starting to think about next term.
Jurgen Klopp has certainly brought about an improvement since taking over in October 2015, but his side are still a few players short of a squad capable of really challenging at the top.
Strength-in-depth seems to be Liverpool’s main issue, and with that in mind, Klopp is starting to consider some back-up wingers to add to his preferred stars like Georginio Wijnaldum.
The Daily Mail have suggested that Demarai Gray is one option.
The Leicester youngster made a huge difference when he came on against Derby County in the FA Cup replay and steered the Foxes to a 3-1 win in extra time.
TuttoMercatoWeb, meanwhile, report that even more surprisingly, Middlesbrough’s Gaston Ramirez is on Klopp’s radar. The Italian source claim that contact has already been made with the Uruguayan’s representatives.
The Mail also think Bayer Leverkusen’s Julian Brandt is being considered, as Liverpool reportedly made enquiries about him in January.
Whether any of these actually arrive at Anfield remains to be seen, but it all points to Klopp hunting thoroughly for some more game-changers in midfield.
