There could be more to Riyad Mahrez’s links to Tottenham than it first seemed.
The Algeria international has had a somewhat underwhelming season, just like Leicester more generally, but that hasn’t stopped a number of top clubs retaining an interest in him.
According to the Times, Spurs spoke to Leicester in January about the playmaker’s availability – but they were told in no uncertain terms that he wasn’t for sale at any price.
The Lilywhites therefore declined to make a bid, but it will be interesting to see whether they return in the summer.
At this rate, the Foxes will struggle to stay in the top flight, so that could make keeping hold of players like Mahrez, Jamie Vardy, and Kasper Schmeichel virtually impossible.
Mauricio Pochettino has been fairly open about the fact that he is looking for another attacking midfielder, which must cast further doubt on the future of Erik Lamela.
Mahrez would be a decent addition, but he still looks a shadow of the player he was last season.
