Few Premier League midfielders will go down in history like Frank Lampard.
The former England and Chelsea star has finally called it a day and hung up his boots, as reported by Sky Sports.
Starting his career at West Ham, he was tipped for big things by his uncle and then-manager Harry Redknapp before heading to Stamford Bridge, where he won the Champions League and three Premier League titles.
When his best days were behind him, he joined Manchester City as part of the New York City franchise, playing for the latter in the MLS as his final step.
Nonetheless, it’s his days as a Chelsea hero and the Premier League’s highest-scoring midfielder of all time that he’ll ultimately be remembered for.
Here’s how former England team-mate and ex-Liverpool centre-back Jamie Carragher reacted, looking back on his numerous tussles with Lampard:
After all those Chelsea battles & Frank Lampard now retiring, I can finally admit the respect I had for him & that he was a great player!

As you’d expect, Chelsea fans quickly took to Twitter too to express their gratitude for the legendary midfielder’s role in their recent history:
