Wayne Rooney has a sensational offer on the table from the Chinese Super League, reports the Mirror.
The Manchester United captain is apparently considering ending his Old Trafford career given what’s up for grabs in the Far East.
The 31-year-old could earn more in a three-year contract than he has done in his entire Premier League career with United and Everton, and although he’s thought to be reluctant to move his young family across the world, that kind of money could be too good to turn down.
Jose Mourinho has placed the ball firmly in the player’s court regarding whether he wants to leave or not, as United are planning to reinforcements in his position in the summer anyway.
The striker-turned-midfielder is wanted by several Chinese clubs, who are willing to pay him wages of £140million in total.
That would see him overtake former Red Devils team-mate Carlos Tevez, who recently became the best-paid player in the world by signing for Shanghai Shenhua for £650,000 a week.
And while it’s Deadline Day in England, there’s no immediate hurry for Rooney to make up his mind, as Chinese clubs can keep recruiting until the end of February.
