Chelsea have not given up on signing Craig Gordon from Celtic despite the SPL champions’ insistence he isn’t for sale.
Antonio Conte is keen to bring in the goalkeeper so that he can allow wantaway Asmir Begovic to leave, with the Bosnian tied to Stamford Bridge until a capable back-up for Thibaut Courtois arrives.
Having seen an initial bid for the 34-year-old rejected, BBC Sport claim that the Blues have now offered the Hoops £3.5million.
The Scotland international is high on Chelsea’s wishlist because of his Premier League experience with Sunderland, but Brendan Rodgers sees him as key to Celtic’s title hopes.
“We don’t want him to go,” Rodgers told the BBC.
“There’s not a credible offer that would make us even consider it.”
Courtois has played all of Chelsea’s Premier League games this season, keeping 13 clean sheets.
Even so, the Belgian’s own future is still relatively uncertain, at least in the long term. The 24-year-old is regularly linked with a return to La Liga, and is reportedly a target of Real Madrid.
