Didier Drogba could be making a surprise return to football with Brazilian club Corinthians, reports Goal.
The Chelsea legend last played for Montreal Impact in the MLS, but that ended fairly acrimoniously after he was left out of a game by manager Mauro Biello.
Since then, he has been a free agent, and at 38-years-old, it would hardly have been surprising if he had hung up his boots altogether. The striker has always been heavily involved in charity work in his homeland, so there would certainly be other avenues for him to explore after his playing days are over.
Yet, instead, he’s determined to prolong his career, and while Marseille was another potential option, he is looking forward to a fresh challenge in Brazil.
It’ll be interesting to see how Corinthians try and tempt him to South America and what exactly they have proposed to his representatives. They’ll at least be benefiting from the publicity that comes with Drogba’s name, even if there’s no question that the Ivorian has slowed down in recent years.
During his Chelsea comeback, he managed just four goals, but his physicality could still make him a useful acquisition.
