Arsenal have finally made some progress in tying down key players after three of the first team signed new deals.
While Gunners fans would most like to hear that Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil had committed their futures to the club, that still isn’t the case, but at least a trio of other stars have now put pen to paper.
The club confirmed via their official website that Olivier Giroud, Francis Coquelin, and Laurent Koscielny had all extended.
Giroud certainly deserves it after his goals against Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Preston. The 30-year-old is finally earning some recognition at the Emirates despite often being confined to the bench this season.
Koscielny, meanwhile, is in his seventh year in north London and has established a firm partnership at the back alongside Shkodran Mustafi. The Frenchman has been one of the few constants in defence for Arsene Wenger’s side.
And while Coquelin has often played a bit-part role, he has now made 131 appearances for the club.
It’s certainly good news that Arsenal are now moving ahead with talks, but the real test will undoubtedly be whether they can convince Ozil and Sanchez to follow suit.
