Tottenham continue to be linked with wingers as the January transfer window hots up, but it seems they are going to struggle to prize their latest target away from Atletico Madrid.
According to the London Evening Standard, Spurs have made an enquiry about the possibility of signing left-sided Nico Gaitan, who has struggled for games this season.
Nonetheless, Diego Simeone is reluctant to allow the 28-year-old to leave the Vicente Calderon just yet.
And while the Argentina international has only featured nine times in La Liga this term, he has found the back of the net twice, with Mauricio Pochettino thought to be eager to bring in another goalscoring midfielder.
Simeone has told Gaitan that the club still value him, but there is still plenty of time for Spurs to make their move.
In fact, Pochettino admitted in December that the Lilywhites would most likely leave it late to delve into the market, the same source quoting him as saying:
“Maybe on the last day, maybe. It’s like before.”
Heung Min-Son scored again in the weekend’s win over Aston Villa, which could deter Spurs over the odds for wingers if they don’t consider them a massive improvement on the South Korean.
