Former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez is still warmly remembered in the Premier League.
The Mexican’s departure in 2014 came as a disappointment to many Red Devils fans after his impressive return of 37 goals in 103 games during his stint at the club.
Now with Bayer Leverkusen, it’s thought Chicharito could be on his way back to the Premier League, with Liverpool and Spurs both keen.
That was reported in the Mirror last month, though it wasn’t clear at the time how the Bundesliga outfit would react to their interest.
It hasn’t been the easiest of seasons for the forward. Since he hit six goals in five games, he’s gone 15 matches without scoring, a run stretching back to October.
Yet, as every player goes through bad spells, that isn’t actually why Leverkusen have decided they’re happy to sell him.
According to Bild, the German club have set a relatively low price tag of€25 million because they believe he doesn’t get on with his team-mates.
Given that Hernandez was such a popular figure during his time at Old Trafford, it’s strange to hear reports that he has been called a selfish player who doesn’t fit in with the squad.
Perhaps his goal-poaching style of play is more valued in England, but he’s never been an all-round player, so it’s unclear why his reputation has suddenly deteriorated.
Fortunately, these rumours are unlikely to stop clubs from pursuing him. There may not be any truth in them, and even if there is, Liverpool and Spurs could both do with a proven goalscorer, regardless of how friendly he is.
