Manchester United continue to be linked with players despite Jose Mourinho’s claims that he’s happy with his squad.
The Red Devils are in enviable form having won their last six Premier League games in a row, and after Chelsea’s defeat at Tottenham in midweek, Mourinho’s side are even being talked about in the context of the title race again.
In particular, their defence is much improved from the start of the season, despite injuries to Chris Smalling and Eric Bailly having interrupted any consistency in the back four.
However, it was still thought that a number of centre-backs were on the club’s wishlist.
Benfica’s Victor Lindelof is one of the main names in the frame to arrive at Old Trafford, but it seems he won’t be joined by Jose Fonte despite the Portugal international handing in a transfer request.
According to the Manchester Evening News, United have decided against making a move for the wantaway Southampton defender.
The 33-year-old may be unhappy at St Mary’s, but Mourinho – who is known to be an admirer of Fonte – is more than content with his current options, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, and Daley Blind, all of whom have filled in for Bailly and Smalling.
Despite his age, Fonte should have no problem in finding a top club to take him on, but it doesn’t look like it’s going to be United.
