Jose Mourinho has been given some serious thinking to do over his left-backs.
The Manchester United boss has perhaps been Luke Shaw’s biggest critic at points this season, publicly laying into the England international for his performance against Watford and then again for requesting not to play when he was ill.
However, it seems the Portuguese’s patience has not yet run out.
The Manchester Evening News report that Mourinho is planning to keep the faith with Shaw and still sees him as the club’s first-choice on the left – which pours cold water on rumours linking Patrice Evra with a return.
While the Frenchman was reportedly keen to swap his intermittent starting spot at Juventus for a glorious comeback at Old Trafford, it seems the feeling isn’t mutual.
Shaw has had his injury problems, but that has allowed Mourinho to keep Marcos Rojo, Matteo Darmian and Daley Blind happy by giving them time at left-back.
Evra, 35, would never have been a long-term solution to United’s concerns regardless, but he certainly would have been a popular signing among the fans.
