Chelsea are not taking Real Madrid’s interest in Thibaut Courtois lightly.
The Belgian has come back from a poor campaign last season to help the Blues to the top of the Premier League table, keeping 11 clean sheets along the way.
With the stopper previously having stated he’d like to play in Spain again, it was inevitable that a top La Liga club would come calling.
However, Chelsea look as though they might be about to pre-empt them by offering their goalkeeper a rather impressive new contract.
The Telegraph are reporting that he will be offered an extra £50,000 a week, taking his current wage to £150,000 a week.
Real are concerned that such a deal could prove the final nail in their coffin as they continue to pursue the former Atletico Madrid loanee, and they are also reluctant to pay the transfer fee Chelsea are demanding – upwards of £75million.
Antonio Conte has already personally improved Courtois’ situation at Stamford Bridge – the goalkeeping coach he fell out with last season has been replaced with one of Conte’s own men, and he has looked a better player for it.
