Liverpool receive boost in Gabigol pursuit

Liverpool are getting ready to swoop for Gabriel Barbosa with the Brazilian out of favour at Inter Milan.

According to the Sun, Gabigol could be on his way to the Premier League after the San Siro outfit refused to deny the wonderkid would be sold in the New Year.

Inter chief Stefano Pioli told Mediaset:

“I am happy at the enthusiasm for Gabigol.

“But I’d like to see him make some moves that are more useful and not just spectacular for the sake of being spectacular.

“Will he remain? We are evaluating the situation. Our first objective in January is to whittle down the squad, because we want players who are happy to be at a big club like Inter.

“We are Inter, proud to be a big team and will go forward only with those who share that view.”

Oddly, Barbosa only moved to Serie A in August in a £25million, when he was in huge demand. The former Santos man has since made just three league appearances and is yet to start.

The 20-year-old is undoubtedly a huge talent, having scored twice in his first four appearances for his national side and found the back of the net a further 24 times over three years at Santos.

Despite his woes at Inter, he continues to be dubbed the ‘next Neymar’ in many quarters, though he’s going to find it hard to live up to that potential unless he quits Inter soon.
