Arsene Wenger has been left frustrated once again in his pursuit of Julian Draxler.
The Germany international is a long-term target of Arsenal, and as he is expected to leave Wolfsburg in January, it seemed as if this was the perfect opportunity for the Gunners to swoop.
However, according to the Daily Mail, they have already been beaten to it by Paris Saint-Germain.
The Ligue 1 champions are still looking for a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left on a free transfer to Manchester United in the summer and could do with some additional support for Edinson Cavani.
PSG will part with around £34million to sign Draxler, who will commit to the French capital for four-and-a-half years.
Draxler put himself at the forefront of the transfer window again with an assist for Mario Gomez’s goal against Borussia Monchengladbach last night.
Despite that, the 23-year-old is unpopular with Wolfsburg fans having repeatedly expressed a wish to leave for a Champions League club – but he won’t be heading to Arsenal after all.
Just when you thought Wenger’s week couldn’t get any worse.
