Former Tottenham star Robbie Keane could be returning to English football – but he’s unlikely to face his old club in the Premier League.
The Irishman recently left MLS outfit LA Galaxy and is rumoured to have a number of options, with hometown club Shamrock Rovers seemingly one of them.
A move to Australia is another possibility, but according to the Daily Star, he is being targeted by Reading.
The 36-year-old is available on a free transfer, and while he’s lost that yard of pace that made him so successful at Spurs, Royals boss Jaap Stam thinks he could still offer something in the Championship.
Throughout his career, Keane – who is his country’s top scorer of all time with 68 goals – has played for a number of clubs, but his best days were undoubtedly at White Hart Lane.
Were he to join Reading, it would be his 11th club, having represented Wolves, Coventry, Inter Milan, Leeds, Tottenham, Liverpool, Celtic, West Ham, La Galaxy, and Aston Villa.
