Torino offered Joe Hart an olive branch in the summer when few other clubs were willing to do so.
The goalkeeper’s demise at Manchester City all came about so quickly after Pep Guardiola’s arrival, with the Catalan even favouring backup stopper Willy Caballero in the early games of the season.
All the same, Hart doesn’t sound particularly grateful for being given a chance to revive his career in Serie A.
Maybe the exotic Italian climate is having an effect on the England international, but these are his actual words, per La Stampa, explaining why he chose the glamorous metropolis of Turin.
“To be honest, it all happened very quickly and I didn’t have many options. If I am here, then it is because there was nowhere else for me to go.”
Lovely stuff. He did add, however, that he was thankful, but mainly because he’s watched Italian football on TV – and let’s face it, it was probably AC Milan, not Torino.
“I am grateful that this club has given me a big chance to be able to play and do so in a serious, ambitious club,” he continued.
“I said yes to Torino because I had always watched Italian football on TV and I had been to Turin before. Now I just want to enjoy this season and I’m not thinking about the future.”
Mercifully, he only on loan, but as long as Guardiola is at City, it seems there’s no way back for Hart, no matter how badly Claudio Bravo continues to play.
Torino sit seventh in the table, with Hart having kept just two clean sheets.
