It was thought that with Ashley Cole’s missed penalty, Steven Gerrard’s playing days were over.
The end of LA Galaxy’s season also looked like the finale of the Liverpool legend’s career, his contract with the MLS side now at its end.
However, according to ESPN, sources close to the player have suggested he isn’t ready to hang up his boots just yet.
It’s rumoured, per the Daily Record, Brendan Rodgers is interested in a reunion with the midfielder at Celtic.
The 36-year-old has always insisted he wouldn’t play for another Premier League team, but that doesn’t rule out a switch to the SPL.
Until he puts pen to paper at one club or another, he’s also going to be linked with a big-money move to China, but it seems more likely he would opt to live back in the UK.
Rodgers previously insisted he wouldn’t sign Manchester United outcast Bastian Schweinsteiger because he no longer offered enough pace, but while the same could be said of Gerrard, he could still serve as an inspiration at Celtic Park.
Former Premier League star Robbie Keane is also out of contract this winter, though he is keen to stay in the MLS.
