David Luiz has undoubtedly been one of this season’s surprise packages.
Chelsea’s decision to re-sign him from Paris Saint-Germain this summer has proven a wise one, the Brazilian slotting into Antonio Conte’s back three perfectly.
Having helped the Blues to a resounding 5-0 win over Everton at the weekend, Luiz has urged his team-mates not to get carried away with the form that has helped them to second in the Premier League table.
“We just want to go match by match, we don’t want to speak about the future,” the centre-back said, via the Mirror.
“It’s important to keep our feet on the ground and have humility, that’s the key.”
Fellow title contenders Liverpool are also shying away from talking about their prospects, but the top four is already shaping up nicely despite Arsenal and Manchester City both dropping points in the latest round of fixtures.
Questions were raised about Chelsea’s defence after consecutive defeats to Liverpool and Arsenal, but Conte has acted quickly to rectify those mistakes.
Luiz has featured in seven league games so far, combining so well with Gary Cahill that it’s now hard to see John Terry getting back in the team barring an injury to one of them.
Chelsea are finally looking more like the side that won the title in 2015. but there’s still a long way to go before they can start talking about silverware again.
