The upcoming international break could prove a nightmare for Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham would ideally like to have given Harry Kane more rest after his return to action against Arsenal, but he has immediately been called up for England’s games against Scotland and Spain – the latter of which is only a friendly.
Kane is not the only worry – Kyle Walker and Danny Rose have both been nursing knocks, and it seems the left-back in particular is struggling.
West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell has received his first call-up because interim boss Gareth Southgate is concerned about Rose. Strangely, the Tottenham defender hasn’t actually been sent home, but it seems unlikely he’ll play against Scotland at this rate.
It certainly doesn’t bode well for Spurs’ upcoming game against the Hammers in a fortnight, and after that, they face a trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea, who are at present looking like the side to beat.
Having sat out the Champions League defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, Rose showed against Arsenal how vitally important he is to Spurs’ movement, so Pochettino may well be having words with Southgate about giving him the rest he needs.
