Just when it was all going so well for Arsenal, they’ve been rocked by another injury scare.
With Danny Welbeck and Per Mertesacker out long-term, Arsene Wenger could scarcely afford to have any more men in the treatment room.
It seems that the pair will now be joined by Lucas Perez, though, who suffered an ankle injury in Tuesday’s EFL cup game against Reading.
The Gunners progressed with a 2-0 victory over the Championship outfit, but it seems to have come at a heavy cost.
Perez could be out for as long as four weeks, even if all Wenger could initially confirm was that he won’t be playing against rock-bottom Sunderland this weekend, as per the Mirror.
Danzell Gravenberch’s challenge forced the summer signing off after 72 minutes, and while Arsenal do have other options in attacking midfield, the news will still come as a heavy blow.
Injuries have prevented Perez from establishing himself this season, and the Sunderland game could have been the perfect opportunity for him to boost his confidence.
Arsenal can go top with a win.
