When people say the transfer market has gone mad, they’re usually referring to deals like Manchester United spending £89million on Paul Pogba, or Neymar being rated at over £200million.
For all the transfer rumours that fly around, it’s fair to say that some seem a little more ‘legit’ than others. Remember when everyone thought Arsenal were going to bid for Jonny Evans? Exactly.
Nonetheless, Mundo Deportivo have now trumped that by coming up with quite possibly the craziest piece of speculation of them all. Brace yourselves – Glen Johnson to Barcelona.
The Stoke right-back has been included in a list of possible candidates to replace Dani Alves, who left in the summer.
Barca are on the hunt for a new right-back, but aren’t keen to spend big, hence why Luis Enrique is now being linked with – shall we say – budget options.
Johnson has done his time at the big clubs – he’s played for both Chelsea and Liverpool – and it definitely wasn’t for him.
The Nou Camp outfit want to replace Aleix Vidal, in whom Enrique doesn’t have much faith, but this is not the way to go about it. To be fair, though, it’ll probably go down as one of the more entertaining football rumours of 2016.
