Memphis Depay has to be among the favourites to leave Manchester United in January.
For a short time after the arrival of Jose Mourinho in the summer, it looked like the Dutchman might be offered a chance to resurrect his Old Trafford career, but he has done little to warrant being given another chance.
Oddly enough, his form for the Netherlands hasn’t been that bad, but he has barely featured in domestic football this season.
Yet, according to Italian source CalcioMercato, he could be offered an escape sooner rather than later, as he is being eyed up by Roma.
Manager Luciano Spalletti is reportedly keen to bring him in as a short-term replacement for star man Mohamed Salah, who will be jetting off to the African Cup of Nations in January.
It’s likely United would only allow the midfielder to leave on loan, as they would be unable to claw back much of the £25million they spent on him just over a year ago.
Two players who share Memphis’ agent, Kevin Strootman and Thomas Vermaelen, are currently at Roma, so a short spell there could be the ideal way for him to reignite his struggling career.
The same source has also suggested that Juventus and AC Milan are also interested, but the former seems very unlikely given his poor performances at United, and it won’t be long before Milan have the funds to bring in a top, top midfielder instead.
