Antonio Conte’s future safe despite betting alert

Conte 2

It’s rarely a surprise when Roman Abramovich decides to part ways with one of his numerous Chelsea managers.

Yet, Thursday evening’s rumours that Antonio Conte was about to be given the boot did not have a ring of truth about them somehow, and it’s now been confirmed he’s still in charge.

Speculation began, of course, when a number of betting firms suspended odds on Conte being the next Premier League manager to lose his job, as reported by the Sun.

The Italian has suffered two big losses in recent weeks, a 3-0 defeat to Arsenal and a 2-1 loss at home to Liverpool, while his side were also unable to beat lowly Swansea, with whom they drew 2-2.

All the same, this has been far from the catastrophic start to the campaign of last season, and Abramovich must have acknowledged that Conte would need some time with his squad.

That didn’t stop SunBets, Betway and Paddy Power all suspending betting, while several other bookmakers slashed their odds on the former Italy manager being ousted.

It’s still absolutely vital that the Blues beat champions Leicester this Saturday, however, or those rumours are bound to resurface in no time at all.
