By and large, Tottenham look to have got even better after their third-placed finish last season.
While so many predicted that Mauricio Pochettino’s men would be unable to produce another title chase, they currently sit one point off the top spot and remain the only unbeaten team in the Premier League.
The likes of Dele Alli, Toby Alderweireld, and Danny Rose have kept up their fine form, but it’s fair to say that trend doesn’t run across the board.
Eric Dier is the most notable player to have struggled this season, with the signing of Victor Wanyama in central midfield appearing to unsettle him.
Dier was panned for his England performance against Slovenia on Tuesday night, with the suggestion being that he has lost a lot of the confidence that was so fundamental to his game last season.
However, Wanyama has definitely been proving his worth so far. A £10million buy from Southampton, he has already made an average of 4 defensive actions per game, as per Squawka.
Not only did he also score the winner in August’s game against Crystal Palace, he has also allowed the rest of the midfield to get forward, too.
The only noticeable problem with his game is his tendency to give away fouls, but that is a sacrifice Pochettino will no doubt be willing to make.
Spurs looked close to the finished article last season, but Wanyama may well be the missing piece in the jigsaw that helps them push on.
