If Paul Pogba’s arrival at Manchester United has achieved one thing, it’s that it’s taken the heat off some of the club’s other misfiring stars.
The Frenchman looks like he could finally be getting on track after a difficult start to the season, but that can’t be said of team-mate and compatriot Anthony Martial.
The 20-year-old will know exactly what Pogba’s going through; he may have cost just £58million, a meagre sum compared to Pogba’s £89million transfer fee, but he’ll know better than anyone the need to live up to the hype.
Unfortunately, while Martial proved his doubters wrong last season, he hasn’t yet been able to replicate that form in the current campaign.
And the Sun are reporting that United officials think they’ve got to the bottom of the problem, as they are blaming the player’s off-field problems.
Martial’s spat with his now ex-wife has been well-publicised, with Samantha Jacquelinet and their baby daughter moving back to Paris after their divorce.
The starlet certainly has some explaining to do to account for his sudden dip in form. Jose Mourinho believes he can get him firing on all cylinders again soon, but competition in United’s squad is fiercer than ever – so Martial needs to get back to his best quickly.
