Jose Mourinho will not be allowed on a January spending spree to match the summer, with Manchester United deeming he is already well-equipped to challenge for the title.
That’s according to the Independent, who report that the club have no major targets despite three defeats in a row to Manchester City, Feyenoord, and Watford.
United have never valued the January window, so Mourinho will have to make do with the £150million+ of players he already has. It is now up to the Portuguese to get the best out of Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and Eric Bailly, or serious questions will be asked come the end of the season.
With City doing so well, having won all five of their opening Premier League fixtures, the pressure is being cranked up on United to perform. Their week from hell has left them in seventh place in the table, already six points off the pace.
If United aren’t going to strengthen, this could be Mourinho’s greatest test – and where the Red Devils finish could be make or break for the Special One.
