Arsenal are still stalling on whether to give Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain a new contract.
That’s according to the Independent, who report that the Gunners wanted to sell the player in the summer.
Arsenal are not the only thing stalling, as that’s probably the best way to describe the England international’s career.
Big things were expected of the midfielder when he arrived at the club from Southampton five years ago, but injuries have hampered his development.
Arsene Wenger has been left disappointed with his progress and is therefore unsure whether Chamberlain should be given a new deal.
The immediate priority is to convince stars Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil to put pen to paper, with the former set to be offered an improved wage of £200,000 a week, as per the Mirror.
As for Chamberlain, he is only still at the club at all because he made it clear he wanted to stay and fight for his place. Despite starting the season with a decent performance against Liverpool, he has already started to fade, failing to make an impact in the 1-1 draw with Paris Saint-Germain in midweek.
It seems the 23-year-old still has his work cut out to impress Wenger, and if he doesn’t improve quickly, he may be leaving the Emirates next summer whether he likes it or not.
