Few Arsenal fans pay much attention to what Arsene Wenger says anymore, but they might want to listen to his latest comments.
Many Gunners fans have been nudging the Frenchman towards the exit for a long time, with it now 12 years since they last won the Premier League.
To make matters worse, Wenger has now revealed that he could have succumbed to their wishes and left the club for Paris Saint-Germain on three separate occasions – but stayed because he loves being at Arsenal.
“Why didn’t I say yes (to PSG)? Because I love where I am,” Wenger told a press conference.
“I know well the owners, but I feel always I remained loyal to Arsenal Football Club because I think it’s a club that has the qualities I love.”
Of course, Wenger isn’t making these comments out of the blue. Arsenal are gearing up to play PSG at the Parc de Princes tonight, though it will be Unai Emery in the home dugout.
PSG could have done with some of the consistency that their Champions League rivals have had over the past two decades, but that doesn’t necessarily mean fans want to keep Wenger indefinitely.
Le Professeur has been told he’s got a job for life at the Emirates, with the option to become a director if he quits as manager. Revelations like this aren’t going to have the intended effect of improving his relationship with the fans, though, as many would rather he’d taken up PSG’s offer.
