Jurgen Klopp’s love affair with Liverpool fans has taken a surprising turn after the German asked supporters not to sing his name during games.
The Reds’ 4-1 blitz of Leicester in front of a redeveloped Anfield unsurprisingly left fans singing his praises, but bizarrely, Klopp could be seen trying to quieten them down.
The 49-year-old is concerned that singing before the game is won is jinxing his side, and he probably has a point after the way they came so close to throwing away a 4-1 lead at Arsenal on the opening day of the season.
“I have to say, because I don’t know how else I can say this, please don’t sing my name before the game is decided!” he said, as per the Sun.
“Immediately when the Kop started signing ‘Jurgen Klopp la la la’ they were clear on Simon Mignolet.
Goals from Sadio Mane, Adam Lallana, and a Roberto Firmino brace saw Liverpool thrash the Premier League champions, and Klopp should be feeling pleased with himself after tactically outdoing the masterful Claudio Ranieri.
However, his side are still yet to find any real consistency and there is still a lot of work to be done.
Up front, Liverpool are on fire, but Lucas Leiva – stepping in for the injured Dejan Lovren – once again showed their defensive frailties.
